Consulting Services
Expert historical consulting
Bringing scholarly expertise to creative, educational, and institutional projects that engage with the medieval past.
Why work with a medieval historian?
Audiences love the medieval past. It sits at a juncture between the foreign and the familiar, making it an ideal canvas for period dramas, fantasy books, and games. I offer consulting services for film, museum exhibits, fiction, games, and other creative projects. I can help you develop depth or simply fact-check your work. For complex projects I can coordinate with Wychwood History to deliver in-depth consulting across medieval and early modern settings.
Services offered
I provide tailored consulting for a range of industries and project types:
- Film and television — Selective script and treatment review, historical dialogue review, development collaboration, and on-set historical advising for suitable medieval projects.
- Publishing and editorial — Historical consultation, fact-checking, manuscript review, and developmental editing for medieval fiction and non-fiction at any stage.
- Museums and heritage sites — Selective project-based research, interpretive text, educational programming, and visitor-experience work.
- Education — Selective curriculum development and content review alongside lectures, workshops, and guest instruction.
- Archival and genealogical research — Evidence-led private, institutional, archival, and academic research drawing on British and European primary sources. Legal research is not offered.
- Historical tourism — Research, interpretation, visitor materials, routes, itineraries, and educational experiences grounded in the evidence of a place and period.
- Gaming and media — Selective historical grounding and lore review for digital, tabletop, and educational projects, without game-design or production services.
How it works
Every engagement begins with a conversation about your project, timeline, and goals. I will scope the work, timing, deliverables, and fee for the individual project. Engagements range from a single consultation call to ongoing advisory relationships.
