For authors and publishers
Historical consultation for medieval books and publishing
Meredith Guthrie, PhD, offers historically grounded consultation and developmental editing for medieval fiction and nonfiction, from early proposals to completed manuscripts.
Historical consultation at any stage
Projects may begin with a proposal, outline, partial manuscript, or complete draft. Depending on the work, consultation may include historical fact-checking, annotations, an accuracy report, an editorial letter, or a focused discussion of the questions shaping the manuscript.
The service has a medieval focus. Each inquiry is assessed for subject fit before the work and deliverables are agreed.
Developmental editing
Developmental work may address structure, argument or story, pacing, character, and the way historical realities shape the project. It is distinct from line editing, copy editing, and proofreading, which are not advertised services.
Commissioned and confidential writing
Credited commissioned writing and highly selective confidential writing support may be considered for legitimate commercial fiction, trade nonfiction, scripts, or public-facing work. Meredith does not undertake student submissions, assessed work, theses, or deceptive scholarly authorship. Authorship, credit, confidentiality, and permitted use are agreed in writing.
Scope and confidentiality
Engagements may range from one consultation to a bounded review or continuing advisory work. Fees, timing, and deliverables are scoped individually. Project materials and client information are private by default; reasonable NDAs may be considered, and public credit is preferred where the project permits it.
