Audiences and formats
Learning is a lifelong process, and I am thrilled to be a part of that. I have classroom experience at the middle school, high school, and undergraduate levels. I have also provided instructional support for postgraduates in a university setting, with a focus on writing and manuscript support.
I have developed several lecture series for adult learners centered on the Canterbury Tales, Magna Carta, and kingship. These are best delivered to groups of about ten to sixty people.
I have also written bespoke lectures on topics that pique public interest. I especially enjoy introducing students to medieval source material and areas of scholarly debate. If you have an idea, I am more than happy to discuss how we can collaborate in an educational setting.
Popular lecture topics
My most requested presentations explore the people, conflicts, and ideas that shaped the medieval world:
- Magna Carta — The origins, legacy, and enduring influence of the Great Charter on constitutional government and individual rights.
- The Hundred Years War — A century of conflict that reshaped dynasties, borders, and cultures.
- Monarchy in the Middle Ages — How medieval monarchs ruled, the limits of royal power, and what happened when kings were too young, too weak, or too ambitious to hold the throne.
- The Medieval Church — How the church shaped communities, ideas, politics, and conflicts.
Additional topics can include the Black Death and its social consequences, women and power in the medieval period, the Crusades, and chivalry and warfare. I am also happy to develop new, custom presentations on request.
Short-term lecture series
For organisations seeking deeper engagement, I offer multi-session lecture series that explore a theme in depth over several weeks. Past series have covered topics such as the political crises of fourteenth-century England, the development of parliamentary government, and the cultural world of the medieval court.
