A review essay engaging recent scholarship on Edward I and the late thirteenth-century Plantagenet polity, published in the peer-reviewed journal of the Mortimer History Society.

Current research and works in development

Meredith’s active research programme focuses on late-medieval English governance, royal minority governments, and prosopographical study of the Plantagenet political and ecclesiastical elite. The following projects are in development for academic publication.

Late-Medieval Episcopal Learning

In development — aimed at English Historical Review

A prosopographical analysis of English bishops and university education, examining the intellectual formation of the late-medieval English episcopate and its relationship to royal governance.

Collective Government During the Minority of Richard II

In development — aimed at Historical Research

An article re-examining the institutional shape of royal authority during the minority years of 1377–1380, arguing for a reading of collective government that looks beyond the formal continual councils.

The Minority of Richard II: A Mirror of Late-Plantagenet Royal Power

Book-length project in development

A monograph extending the doctoral research, situating the minority government of Richard II within the longer arc of late-Plantagenet kingship and reading the period as a window onto the assumptions, anxieties, and constitutional grammar of fourteenth-century English royal power.
